Fort Wilderness Golf Cart Rules

Fort Wilderness follows Florida golf cart laws. Read Florida state laws →

Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is a private Walt Disney World resort property — it is not a municipality and has no municipal ordinances. Golf carts are the primary mode of transportation within the campground for guests moving between campsites, amenity areas, and bus stops. The applicable legal framework is Florida state law, specifically F.S. § 316.212, which governs golf cart operation on roadways within designated private communities and resort areas. Disney sets resort-specific operational rules for golf carts on the property. As of June 2024, Disney prohibits third-party rental companies from delivering golf carts directly to Fort Wilderness. Guests who want a golf cart during their stay must rent one through the on-site Disney Cart Rental program or arrange pickup at a location outside the resort.

F.S. § 316.212 Florida State Law — Operation of Golf Carts on Resort Roadways

A golf cart may be operated only during the hours between sunrise and sunset, except that a golf cart may be operated during the hours between sunset and sunrise if the golf cart is equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, and rearview mirrors.

F.S. § 316.212

Florida's primary golf cart statute applies to Fort Wilderness as the governing legal framework for golf cart operation on the resort's internal roads. Under this statute, golf carts may be operated during daylight hours, or during nighttime if equipped with headlamps, stop lamps, turn signal lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, parking brakes, and rearview mirrors. The roads within Fort Wilderness are private resort roads not subject to state highway jurisdiction, but the statute establishes the baseline safety standards and equipment requirements that apply to golf cart operation in Florida.

Walt Disney World Resort Transportation Policy (2024) Third-Party Golf Cart Delivery Prohibition

As of June 2024, Walt Disney World implemented a policy prohibiting third-party golf cart rental companies from delivering golf carts directly to Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. This was a significant change for visitors who had previously relied on off-site vendors for cart delivery. Guests now have two options: rent a golf cart through Disney's own on-site rental program, or arrange their own transportation to pick up a cart from an off-site rental location and transport it in a vehicle. Off-site rental companies serving the Fort Wilderness market now operate on a customer self-pickup model.
